Consistent performance for API

This was my third time using their API for the Nous Hermes 2 model. Just like my previous orders, the uptime was solid, and the responses were consistently fast. No surprises, which is exactly what I need for my application. They've been reliable since I first started using them months ago.

Hermes models are fantastic

Got API access to the Hermes models last week, and I'm genuinely blown away. The performance is incredible for the price. My project just got a huge boost. I'm definitely subscribing for the annual plan soon!

Good experience with OpenHermes

I signed up for developer portal access to try out OpenHermes. The signup process was straightforward, and the license key landed in my inbox within a minute. I downloaded the model weights and started playing around. The documentation for quantization was helpful, and I managed to get it running locally without too much fuss. Inference hosting was a breeze to set up for testing, though I'd probably use my own infrastructure for heavy loads. Overall, a solid platform for anyone looking into open-source LLMs.

Decent value, but some UI quirks

I tried out their fine-tuning services for a custom model. The results were quite good, and the pricing was competitive compared to other providers. However, I found the navigation in the developer portal a bit clunky at times, especially when trying to monitor job progress. It would be great if they streamlined the UI a little more. Delivery of the finetuned model was prompt once the job completed. Customer support was responsive when I had a question about billing, which was a plus. All in all, a positive experience, but there's room for improvement on the user interface.

Hey, I'm thinking about getting an annual subscription for the Hermes API. Do they ever do bigger discounts than the 10-20% off for annual stuff? Wondering if I should wait.

M Michelle S. 2 weeks ago
I've only really seen the 10-20% for annual commitments, or sometimes free credits if you're new. Doesn't seem like they do massive drops.

R Rachel Hernandez 2 weeks ago
Yeah, usually it's the annual thing or initial free API credits. They sometimes have special deals around conferences like NeurIPS or for new model launches, but those are usually for specific things or beta access, not a huge sitewide discount usually.

Can you use Nous Research models for commercial projects? Like, if I build an app using their API, is that cool?

B Ben Williams 2 days ago
Totally. Lots of people are building stuff on top of their models. That's kinda the whole point of offering API access and enterprise keys.

D David Johnson 1 day ago
Yeah, that's what the API access is for. It's not just for research anymore, plenty of startups are using these open source models. Just check the terms for your specific use case but general commercial use is fine afaik.

How do I actually get the 'free API credits' I keep hearing about? Is it automatic when you sign up or do I need a code?

S Sam Baker 4 days ago
I think for new accounts it's usually automatic, just appears in your balance after you create an account. No code needed for that, just check the portal.

D Daniel R. 2 days ago
Yeah, when I signed up a few months back, the credits just showed up in my account balance. If you have a specific promo code from a partnership or something, you'd put that in during checkout when you top up, but the free starter ones are usually just there.

Is Nous Hermes 2 actually good for creative writing stuff? Or is it more for technical tasks? Thinking about trying it for some story generation.

J Julia W. 3 weeks ago
I've used it for some code generation and it's pretty solid. For creative writing, I've had mixed results, sometimes a bit generic unless you really prompt it well. GPT-4 might still be better there, but it's worth trying with the free credits.

It's decent! I used it to brainstorm some plot points for a fantasy story last month and it gave me some interesting angles. Not as 'human' as something like Claude, maybe, but definitely usable. They do call them 'human-centric simulators' so that's the goal.

What's the deal with their 'model weights'? Can I actually download those or is it just for certain users?

J Josh Sanchez 6 days ago
Some of the models, especially the older ones like the original Hermes series, have their weights publicly available for download. For newer stuff or specific fine-tuned versions, you might need to check their portal or specific announcements.

E Emma 4 days ago
Yeah, for many of their open-source models, you can totally get the weights. It's part of their open-source philosophy. Just head to their site and look for the specific model you're interested in, usually there's a link or instructions.
